if you cancel sky tv....
you keep your box, but can you still record the free view channels that you receive onto the hard drive?

Mate spoke with sky and they said you can't, but i thought as long as you received the signal for that station, you would be able to record onto the hard drive.

Interested as thinking of knocking my TV subscription with them on the head... bloody rip off merchants.

I have it on good authority that had I cancelled my subscription then the Valencia deal would not have happened!

I look at it as an investment

"They don't need your £1,000 a year to make a profit"

If a million subscribers binned Sky, they wouldn't have much of a profit.

Sorry. That's everything for £42.50 a month for a year, obviously

penners - When a huge number of people that are doing it don't spend that much on food for their kids, yes I think it's unacceptable and unnecessary.
They are charging you £2 or £3 per day for something that costs them pennies per subscriber per day to produce, Sky are profiteering at your expense. If you're happy to be mugged off by them then good luck to you.

They pay out £100's of millions for rights to sporting events, but they get that back from advertising revenue and much more on top from reselling the rights around the world. They don't need your £1,000 a year to make a profit, but as long as you're willing to pay it they'll take it.

Luckily, as has been said, there is now competition from BT and Virgin so perhaps they will be forced to mend their ways, but as long as people blindly keep paying whatever they want that won't happen.

Been with Sky for over 20 years. Had full to package with multiroom and HD. As from October, would have increased by yet another £5 a month to £82.50. Contacted them to cancel and was offered everything for a year for £42.50. Cancelled anyway. I can live happily without it.

Each to there own. If you want it and can afford it then fine. If you think they are taking the piss then leave or try and get a deal. The only thing I think is taking the piss a bit is the Box Office sports stuff. I don't think you should pay extra for it, especially when it is say Bellew vs Cleverly.

Re: if you cancel sky tv....
quick question then, if everyone was paying full price for sky. do you think £2-£3 per day is reasonable?

Re: if you cancel sky tv....
That's why I don't gamble either penners. Every bookie I've ever met is very wealthy.

I'm in business myself. I'll give discounts if necessary to gain new customers, but I'd go broke if I gave 50% discounts to every existing customer that asked for it. Why? Because I sell at a fair price for both me and the customer to start with.

you understand how business works yes? companies like betfair, for example, offer incentives for new customers. does that mean that current customers are being ripped off?

of course they are going to offer discounts to keep customers. it doesnt mean the other ones are being ripped off, if anything it makes them mugs for not negotiating a discount themselves.

I was shocked when i saw the figure. I thought that with everyone on here getting a reduced bill they'd be struggling to break even.

But we've been told they spend all the money on making quality programs? I wonder where all that profit came from? Not the gullible subscribers surely?

Bskyb posted over £1.3 billion in profits last year. I won't be feeling too guilty over getting a few quid off my bill.

I know it costs money to make programs etc. and I never begrudged that bit, but £120 p.a. for Sky Plus, another £120 p.a. for HD, another £120 p.a. for having a 2nd box, etc. is the piss taking bit.

£90 one off payment for a digital recorder, £75 one off payment for an Apple TV box, purchase of the odd box set and I get everything worthwhile that Sky customers get.

The fact that it's common knowledge that all you have to do is tell them you're leaving and they'll cut your subscription in half for 6 months, and then again, and again, for anyone that asks should tell you that if you're paying full price you're being ripped off.

By all means carry on paying for these programs to be made if that's what you believe you're doing, I'll just watch them.

Re: if you cancel sky tv....
My issue is I don't watch TV much at all anymore, I've got free view and don't watch all the channels on that. I like the idea of watching all the sport, but know it would never happen. I like the docs but that is not enough. Films are not inspiring these days. I only watch West Ham so just stream it.

If I was at home all day housebound retired or on benefits I would get it.
